Boundaries of “The Monsey Eruv”
It is no secret that Monsey is no longer a small town, a place comprised of just a few streets, where you either lived “up the hill” or “down.” Baruch Hashem, Monsey has expanded in every direction, and The Monsey Eruv is constantly receiving calls from recent arrivals to one of the newer neighborhoods, asking that they be included in the eruv.
The Chasam Sofer was very specific in his teshuvos about the importance of putting up an eruv in order to prevent accidental chilul shabbos. Given that it is human nature to accidentally carry a handkerchief or a piece of challah outside, or even to take a siddur or a tallis to shul, the Chasam Sofer explained that it is both appropriate and obligatory to put up an eruv to remove a potential pitfall that could cause the tzibur to stumble.
Given that reality, the rabbonim of The Monsey Eruv do everything possible to accommodate eruv requests, adding on new sections as needed and wherever possible. Still, it is crucial for people to remember that an eruv has boundaries and carrying is only permitted within those specific areas. Sadly, there are individuals who are michalel Shabbos by accidentally carrying in places that are not covered by the eruv, whether it is those living in the newer areas, visitors, or vacationers who make the grave mistake of assuming that you can carry or push a stroller anyplace in the greater Monsey area.
In order to prevent these mistakes from happening, The Monsey Eruv is releasing a full list of the eruv’s boundaries, covering each of the eruv’s 26 sections and its sub-sections. Please be aware that:
Streets that are part of the eruv’s boundaries are often problematic, with some sections of the roadway covered by the eruv, while houses or grassy areas remain outside the eruv. Therefore, it is critical to know exactly where the eruv’s boundaries lie in these locations.

Route 202C hits Route 202 twice southwest of Cottage Lane. The eruv runs through Route 202C in that area, not on Route 202, and does not cover the grassy area between Route 202 and Route 202C or the roadway of Route 202c.
Carrying from the New City eruv at the Route 202 intersection, to the Haverstraw or Pomona eruv is forbidden, you may cross at the Concklin Rd and Routh 45 intersection.

We are extremely fortunate to be able to work with many partners in order to make the Monsey eruv a reality and provide tremendous benefits to the Rockland County community. Each one of us should daven for the freedom of our community that allows our eruv to exist. With Hashem’s help, The Monsey Eruv should be able to continue maintaining the highest standards of kashrus.
